Cold Medication (Dextromethorphan) Addiction

If you find yourself craving such medications as dextromethorphan, or Dextromorphan Hydrobromide (DXM HBr), found in cold medications and cough syrups, you may be an addict. Abuse of dextromethorphan is sometimes called robotripping, which is named after the popular cold medicine, Robitussin. These medications are powerful and strong when abused and it's frightening that they are readily available over the counter. If you or a loved one has an addiction to any of these medications, there is help.

Addiction and treatment centers don't just treat meth or other drug addicts, they also treat addicts to cold medicines. Treatment involved education, detoxification, and understanding how this medication treats your body and makes you addicted to it.

Drug addiction is a disease that is readily treatable if you only give it an opportunity to be treated. You don't have to lose everything and be at the rock bottom in order to need help.

Rehabilitation is a process that takes time. You didn't just wake up one morning as a drug addict, you worked your way up to it, It probably started small and slowly without your realizing it until it was too late.

Your rehabilitation treatment will start slowly too. You'll be given time for withdrawal. You'll be given counseling to help you understand how these drugs affect your body and those around you. You'll be given a treatment program that may seem challenging and overwhelming at first.

Whether you choose in patient or out patient treatment is entirely up to you and your personal situation. There are both options available. Often we don't know how sick we are, until we are well again.

Don't let a life of addiction destroy your relationships with family, friends and loved ones. Get help today before your relationships are ruined. Your family and friends miss you and want what is best for you. Give us a call and let us help you get started on your path to sobriety.
